Fanciful Restaurant Review

In this post is am going to be writing a pretend restaurant reviews. My pretend name is Emily Wooden.

I visited the Sweet Potato restaurant in Woosterdon Michigan on the coast of Lake Michigan. The restaurant was a two-story cream colored building with balconies on the back overlooking the lake. When you enter the restaurant there are nice comfortable chairs that you can sit in while you wait to be seated. The servers come and allow you to choose where you would like to sit. I chose a seat on the balcony. The restaurant menu was quite exquisite and hard to chose from but I finally decided on a appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert. For my appetizer I ordered a crab cake rolled up in strips of cooked sweet potato. The crab was delicious and fresh and the sweet potato added a soft crunch. Then for my entrée I decided on a 11 oz New York strip steak with a side of mashed potatoes and bacon sweet potato hash. Finally for dessert I had a slice of pumpkin cheesecake with caramel and candied sweet potato slices on top. Everything was amazing! I give the Sweet Potato restaurant 5 stars. Thank you for reading my review.

Fall

Poem of the week

As the rich red, yellow, and orange colors start to plaster the leaves,

the weather begins to cool.

We sit or climb in trees and watch the sun bounce off the beautiful colors of fire.

We try to soak up the last days of fall

as the frost and 32 degree weather starts to take over.

Then when we see all the colors on the ground and the first snowfall,

we wait for fall to come again.

Mini Homeschool Lessons

I realized that I have not done a mini homeschool lesson in a while so I will do one on my science chapter I was tested on today. There are there categories of different kinds of rocks. The ones that are formed from lava or magma (melted rock) are called igneous rocks. The three types of igneous rocks are obsidian, pumice, and granite. If you have granite counters in your kitchen it is made from hot lava. The second type of rock is sedimentary rocks. Three kinds are sandstone, limestone, and shale. Limestone rocks are almost like chalk but have different chemical properties than it. The third kind is metamorphic rocks. They include slate and marble. Slate is from shale when shale is pressured so that it changes the chemical makeup to slate. So next time you pick up a rock remember the three different kinds.

News

Sorry for not posting in a while, I have been very busy with school and cows.  Two weeks ago, my mom’s chicken died of passing an egg too hard. We miss her a lot. If you remember my horse Swirly, please pray for her because she is sore. Three weeks ago, I brought home my first heifer.  I went in on with a partner for her. Now everyday I go down to the barn in the morning and night to give her special grain for showing.

Some book series I have read are the Dear America books and  I am currently reading Chasing the Falconers. It is about this brother and sister pair that has to prove their parents are not terrorists and wait home out for a killer that does not want them to find the truth. If you like mysteries these books are for you!

Home

We are here! Three weeks ago on Thursday, September 9, two trucks with trailers and a 36 foot Uhaul drove in the driveway of our new house. It took us one day to load all of the boxes and one day to unload all of the boxes. We still have boxes in the house that have not been touched. My room is unpacked, and it is large, and I do not have to share a room with my sister. The different milks are coffee, chocolate, and strawberry. My favorites are the coffee and the chocolate.

Moving to Massachusetts

A couple weeks ago my dad was offered a job at Mapleline Farm in Hadley, Massachusetts, as the herd manager. This weeked we accepted the position, and we hope to start working on September 12.  We hope to be moved up there in the next two weeks. The house we will be moving into has four bedrooms, two living rooms, and three bathrooms. We are also going to be able to keep our horses at our house.  God answeres prays!  We will still keep in touch by letters and blogging. When I have my address, I will give it to Miss Blessing to give to you if you want to write letters. Another perk–free chocolate milk!

Cross-Country Adventure

A friend of mine and his family took an adventure and followed bikers cross-country back.  Right now they are in Wisconsin, and as you know, my family used to live there. I asked him what he thought of it.  He told me he loved it, and he’s enjoyed watching the farms go by and the food.  He told me his favorite food was cheese curds and said they were, “Kind of squeaky.”  I told him that means they are fresh!  In their free time they visited a zoo, crossed the Michigan Lake on a ferry (and had a hard time fitting the trailer on it), and visited a museum filled with taxidermy animals.  In a few days they will cross into Michigan.

Silk and Debut

My two show heifers for this year are Silk and Debut.  Debut is a winter calf and was born on December 12, 2015.  Silk is a winter yearling and was born on December 1, 2014.  When we pick show calves, we look for these four things: feet and legs, rib, and pins and hooks.  Feet and legs are the cow’s feet and legs.  We look for straight long legs.  In feet we want their hooves pointed straight.  Rib is the calf’s depth of stomach.  Hooks and pins are near the rear end of the cow.  The pins are a hump that comes first and should go on a downward slant to the pins on the rear.  If you want to learn more, just ask.

From the Past

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a great summer! I want to do a recap of all of my show calves and where they are now. Symphony, my first calf (the one in the picture) in March gave birth to a baby calf (who I named Serena) is doing great. She just recently went excellent or 90%, which means out of the perfect cow scored 100, she is in the excellent range. Cybil is due to have a baby any day now and will become a cow and milk very shortly. Silk and Debut will both be my show heifers for this year. They will be shown in 2 weeks at my 4-H show. If you have any questions about any of my cows just ask! Have a great summer!
